POSITION DESCRIPTION
MINISTER OF MUSIC (PART-TIME)
I. INTRODUCTION
This position is established as the Minister of Music for Living Word Baptist Church (LWBC). The position is part-time. The Minister of Music will perform the duties of the position during the Sunday Morning Church Service and one choir practice/rehearsal session each week. The Minister of Music must also work with the church’s instrumentalist each week to ensure a quality service. The practice session with the instrumentalist may occur on Sunday morning before the service.
II. REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must be a follower of Christ. He or she must become a member of LWBC upon being hired.
III. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent serves as the Minister of Music. He or she performs duties associated with the conduct of the music program for church services and programs which includes but is not necessarily limited to the following:
- Pray for and minister to the choir members and instrumentalist
- Work with the instrumentalist in helping to learn new music
- Conduct music program for church services
- Lead congregation in worship and pray for each service
- Schedule time and location for choir rehearsal
- Recruit choir members
- Select soloist’s and specials for services
- Notify Secretary of announcements that need placed into bulletin
- Consult with the Pastor concerning music appropriate to services; Select music for services
- Arrange for sound equipment and recording of music program (FB Live, etc.)
- Coordinate a working schedule for sound and media technicians
- Work with media tech so words are prepared on Sunday for congregation
- In conjunction with the Pastor, arrange for special singing events (bring in groups) on occasion and or lead special worship services (revivals, Sunday night services, etc.)
- Work with VBS Director on music for VBS
- Make sure microphones are working for services and batteries are ready
- Regularly attend worship services; When absent, arrange for a replacement and notify the Pastor
- As a Minister, support and participate in other church ministries and events as possible
- Perform other duties as requested by the Pastor
IV. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
The incumbent is subject to the direct supervision of the Pastor in the selection and conduct of music programs for the church services. He or she is expected to possess sufficient knowledge to be able to perform assigned duties with little direct supervision. This includes knowing or learning how to operate the church’s presentation software MediaShout and FB Live, the church’s livestreaming service. If the candidate does not have a working knowledge in the field of Contemporary Christian Music, he or she must be willing to try to learn and lead the church to these desired ends.
V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires walking, climbing of stairs, bending, and lifting of light items. There are no unusual physical demands associated with this position.
VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
