Job Summary:
Mt. Vernon Baptist Church is seeking a Senior Pastor who is called by God to provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to our congregation. As a traditional Southern Baptist Church, we seek a pastor who adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, preaches the Word of God faithfully, and shepherds the congregation with wisdom, humility, and love.
God has blessed us, and the church has flourished through the leadership of strong pastors, excellent children/youth programs, effective music ministry, mission outreach, and outstanding member-led programs.
The Senior Pastor will be responsible for preaching, teaching, pastoral care, church leadership, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preaching & Teaching: Deliver biblically sound sermons and provide spiritual instruction in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Shepherding & Pastoral Care: Provide guidance, counseling, and support to church members, including visitation to the sick, bereaved, and homebound.
- Leadership & Administration: Lead the church in fulfilling its mission, overseeing staff, deacons, and ministry teams, and guiding church programs and initiatives.
- Discipleship & Evangelism: Encourage and equip the congregation to grow in their faith and actively share the Gospel within the community.
- Community Engagement: Represent the church in the local community, foster relationships with other churches, and participate in SBC associations and conventions.
- Church Governance: Work with deacons and church leadership to ensure effective decision-making, financial stewardship, and adherence to biblical principles.
- Missions & Outreach: Promote and support mission efforts at the local, national, and international levels, including SBC initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be a born-again believer with a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.
- Called by God to pastoral ministry and committed to the inerrancy and authority of Scripture.
- Ordained in a Southern Baptist Church and in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- A heart for shepherding and a passion for preaching the whole counsel of God.
